There's Just Something About a Ruin

Last week, my husband and I took our son, Jack, on a college visit. Truth be told, I think he was really more excited about stopping here on the way home. This wreck of a building was once a fabulous department store in a small town not too far from where we live. At some point, there must have been a fire. The upper floors are open to the sky. And home to pigeons. I am a little surprised that the place hasn't been condemned. But it is so crumblingly romantic!

The middle floors are decorated like something out of the latest Anthro catalog; just add model and you're all set:

But this is what Jack really wanted to see -- an entire floor of vintage vinyl. After an hour's sorting, we lugged home a big stack of  78s -- all jazz, his favorite. And the owner was so kind! A twinkle in his eye as he priced them out for us. Jack can't wait to get back to look some more. And I'm happy to go, too, just to soak up the atmosphere! Have a favorite destination you'd like to share? Leave a note and tell us about it! xo

That is so awesome that the owner let you go in to look inside of the building. I am also a fan of vinyl. I still catch myself calling CD's records.

How I love your blog! What fun it is to rummage around looking for wonderful vintage treasures! What fun you are going to have with those olde records!
Thank you for your kind comments on my blog! Yes, Rev. Maxwell was an incredible teacher! I loved sitting under his preaching each week.
You asked for a favorite destination...and, immediately, my thoughts went to a huge log house coffee shop that my hubby and I love to go for coffee dates. It's called Sisters Coffee Company and is in Sisters, Oregon. The atmosphere is wholesome with wonderful worship music playing in the background, the coffee and sweets are divine and on cooler days there is a crackling fire in the great stone fireplace. We often sit upstairs in the loft and enjoy wtching all the activity below. We always bring our laptops and/or good books to read and spend precious hours together.
Blessings, my new friend!
